Raster convenience comes with a size limit
WMF describes drawing operations that can be scaled by a compatible renderer. PNG stores the resulting pixels at one chosen size. It is easy to insert into a slide or page, but enlarging it later can soften edges and lettering.
Keep the WMF when future exports at different dimensions are likely. For several uses, create each PNG from the original drawing rather than repeatedly resampling an earlier raster copy.
